I have often thought “Why is it taking Jesus so long to prepare a home for us in Heaven?” As impressive as it is, what Ty Pennington accomplishes in a week on Extreme Makeover is nothing compared to what God can do in any amount of time given His limitless resources and abilities. So what is the delay? “Anytime now Father…I’m ready…come and take us Home!”
When hearing the passage read today about ‘ going to prepare a place for you’ (Romans 14:2-4) the thought came to me, what if it wasn’t so much about Jesus taking all this time to construct a home for each of us (because again, He does not need more time…He created the universe in 6 days), as much as it is Him giving us ample opportunity to prepare for our eternal home. Maybe His preparations, and the time it is taking, is more about softening the hearts of those He loves, yet are still lost. God says in Matthew 18:14 that our Father in Heaven desires that none should perish. Like any loving parent who believes that more time, more patience, even more discipline would bring their wandering child ‘home’… perhaps that is what God is doing.
So… if you get to wondering why is it taking God so long to finish our homes in Heaven…it may be that He still has work to finish in some hearts on Earth.
“He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.” Revelation 21:3-4
